What is spiritual direction? Spiritual direction (also called "spiritual guidance") is a relationship in which one person supports, encourages, and assists another in paying attention and responding to God's active presence in his or her daily life. The real director in any spiritual guidance relationship is the Holy Spirit; the human spiritual director or guide is a companion with whom we may find the freedom and trust to explore who God is in our lives and what God is inviting us to do and be. There are times when the teaching of the church is sufficient for our needs. Sometimes we find the guidance we seek from good books, dear friends, or small caring groups. There are times, however, when we what we really yearn for is another person who can give us concentrated time and attention in an atmosphere of prayer and deep holy listening.
How often - and where - do we meet? Spiritual direction sessions typically occur once a month, and last for about an hour. Many people choose to come to Holy Ground for their sessions. In addition, spiritual direction is offered several days a month at two locations in Pittsburgh. Please call or email for more information.
How much does it cost? The fee is on a sliding scale basis, and ranges from $25 to $50 a session.
